Dedicated CRM
CRM
Core objects
In full
Nutshell holds Companies, People, Leads and Activities as separate record types. A Lead is the opportunity object and can be attached to companies and to people; activities are scheduled with participants drawn from companies, people and leads, and can be created from a lead, person or company page. Creating a company or person requires only a name.

Pipeline stages
In full
Leads run through an ordered set of administrator-defined stages within a pipeline. Stages are created from scratch, from templates or from an existing pipeline, can be renamed, given guidance text, a confidence level and an overdue timeframe, and their order is changed by dragging the stage header. The lead board shows one column per stage with lead count and total value.

Status
In full
Status is its own attribute of the lead, taking Open, Won, Lost, Cancelled or Pending, and the vendor's import documentation lists Status and Stage as two separate mappable fields with Status defaulting to Open when left blank. Closing is described as changing the status, not as moving to a terminal stage.

Resolution
In part
The same status attribute separates Won from Lost and from Cancelled. An Outcome is captured alongside it, selected from a drop-down the vendor says appears whenever a lead is lost or canceled, and outcome is reported on separately from status.

Expected close date
In full
The vendor states leads store the expected close date, and the forecast report ranges on it.

Actual close date
In full
Nutshell keeps an actual close date distinct from the expected one: the custom report documentation states the closed date filter spans both actual and expected close dates, the sales report plots won leads along an axis that is the close date, and Closed Time is a mappable field on import alongside Open Time. The in-app close is documented purely as a status change with no date entry, so the value comes from the platform rather than the user; the only place the vendor documents a person supplying it is an import of historical sales.

Record preservation
In full
Closed opportunities persist and stay in Nutshell's reporting. The vendor states a lead whose status is set to Won is added to the Sales report, and the losses reporting covers lost and canceled leads across the account, segmentable by outcome reason.

Structured lost reasons
In full
Administrators pre-define a list of outcomes, and when a lead is lost or canceled Nutshell presents a drop-down of those reasons to select from, with an optional competitor. The reason is structured and reportable: the Losses report compares quantity and value of lost business segmented by outcome.

Email sync
In full
A Gmail or Office 365 mailbox is connected to Nutshell so that messages send and receive in both places, with mail synced from the mailbox appearing in the Nutshell inbox and on person, company and lead timelines. Mail can be composed and sent from within Nutshell from a record timeline, from list pages in bulk or from the dashboard. A BCC dropbox address exists as an alternative capture route for other providers, and deleting a message in the mailbox does not delete the copy held in Nutshell.

Calendar sync
In full
Two-way calendar sync is available for Google Calendar and Office 365. Activities scheduled in Nutshell are sent to the external calendar with date, time, location and attendees, and external calendar events can be synced back in as Nutshell activities, so an invitation received from a contact appears as a scheduled activity. The activity object is what syncs. Constraints: the sync can be configured one-way, historical events are not imported, and events whose only participants are Nutshell users are not created. A read-only ICS feed subscription is offered for other calendar applications.

Schedulable activity types
In full
Activities are scheduled from the add-new menu or from a lead, person or company page, with an activity type chosen from a drop-down, participants, related leads, location and agenda notes. Activity types are user-definable: administrators add their own types under organization settings, alongside the supplied defaults, to cover things such as product demos or cold calls. Internal work that is not a customer interaction is handled by Tasks, which can be recurring.

Opportunity reporting
In full
All three reports exist natively. The Funnel report reports lead progression through pipeline stages and shows the number, value and percentage of leads that advanced past each stage, and the number, value and percentage won, lost or canceled from within each stage. Win rate is a calculated metric available in custom reports alongside total and average lead value and average time open, and also appears by channel in the Attribution report. The Forecast report projects sales to date plus open pipeline against quota, driven by the lead's expected close date field and optionally weighted by confidence. Custom reports update in real time as leads change.
